On 4 May 2024, the 11th Literacy Congress brought together approximately 80 participants from various Folk High Schools.
The need for more adult education schools with daily and frequent literacy classes, more teachers, and the implementation of interactive groups that encourage participation and mutual support was highlighted. Furthermore, the importance of digital literacy spaces to reduce the technological gap and to simplify administrative procedures with accessible language was underlined.
THE PARTICIPANTS EMPHASISED THAT LITERACY IS A UNIVERSAL RIGHT AND CALLED ON THE RESPONSIBLE BODIES TO ENSURE INCLUSIVE AND ACCESSIBLE EDUCATION FOR ALL.
Volunteers were an important key to the development of the Congress. We were fortunate to have the support of volunteers who translated 5 languages: English, French, Wolof, Arabic and Urdu. More than 20 volunteers accompanied us on this special day.
